Things to Do in Lake Geneva, and a Quiet Place to Stay
Big-lake sights by day, then home to our own little lake.
On the Water
The Shore Path, the Boats and the Town
Lake Geneva is about 20 minutes from Lily Lake. Walk a stretch of the public shore path past the grand old estates, take a boat tour, and spend an afternoon in the shops and restaurants downtown.
- The Geneva Lake shore path: open to the public all the way around the lake. Walk a section or make a day of it.
- Boat tours: the Lake Geneva Cruise Line's famous mail boat, where the mail jumpers deliver from a moving boat, plus sightseeing and dinner cruises.
- Black Point Estate: an 1888 Victorian summer home, reached by boat or the shore path.
- Big Foot Beach State Park: hiking and a beach on the south edge of town.
Day Trips
Animals, Stars and Treetops
A few favorites just outside town.
- Safari Lake Geneva: a drive-through wildlife preserve about five miles from downtown, where camels, bison, ostriches and more come right up to the car. Register online before you go.
- Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay: the 1897 observatory with the largest refracting telescope in the world, with public tours.
- Lake Geneva Ziplines & Adventures: canopy zipline tours, a ropes course and a climbing tower.
- Winterfest: snow sculptures downtown every February.
A Night Out
Comedy, Magic and a Historic Bar
Make an evening of it in town, then come back to the quiet.
- Tristan Crist Magic Theatre: often-comedic magic and illusions, with new tricks added every year.
- The Grapevine Theater: club-style stand-up comedy in a small room, in season from fall through spring.
- Geneva Stage: a restored downtown theater with comedy, plays, films and music.
- Maxwell Mansion: the 1856 estate downtown, with the Apothecary Bar and a password-only speakeasy.
- Dinner shows nearby: Fireside Dinner Theater, and in Delavan, the Rosewood Dinner Theater and the Dancing Horses Theatre.
Shows, hours and seasons change; check each venue before you go.
